Viewing minerals with this LED Flashlight is a treat! It activates some fluorescence in minerals not thought to be LW fluorescent especially due to the UV filter pre-installed. You will get accurate, intense fluorescence from well known longwave fluorescent minerals like Fluorite, Sodalite, Hackmanite. However, you will also see a fluorescent response with some minerals which normally only glow under shortwave UV illumination. Many calcites unexpectedly fluoresce and exhibit phosphorescence under this light. Franklin, NJ Willemite, Calcite and Sphalerite all fluoresce under the 365nm filtered UV of the Conway S2 LG 365nm Longwave UV LED Mineral Light. There are certainly many fluorescence differences compared to true 254nm shortwave UV light sources. But discovering how some shortwave minerals glow under this light is pretty interesting! But ultimately, this is a longwave UV light source. So there is absolutely no guarantee that this light will make your traditionally shortwave mineral glow, Scheelite, for instance…
– When shopping for antiques, this light is BETTER than most since Vaseline or Uranium glass will glow nicely even in a brightly lit room. It can help you with authentication of stamps and currency. You can even detect newer varnish or other finish on older furniture. You can detect many repairs made to crystals, minerals, rocks or other items like dishware. Many times the adhesive glows under longwave UV light.
Mineral collectors, you need to stay away from the cheap UV flashlights which do not list their UV wavelength. Those lights or ones listed as 395nm UV are NOT for Mineral use.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
This is a high-performance light and is not intended for continuous use because the LED WILL overheat and burn out if the light is left on continuously for too long. The flashlight sheds the excess heat to the surrounding air – so if it is cold out – say less than 55 degrees F, the flashlight may be operated for much longer periods of time than if the surroundings are room temperature. When the head of the flashlight feels hot to the touch, turn the flashlight off and let it cool for a few minutes. Just turn it on when looking, off when not. Don’t make the mistake of putting it in your pocket when it is turned on.
Except for the LED itself, there is a standard 1 year warranty for the main components of the flashlight. Burned out LEDs are covered for a three-month warranty. If you burn out the LED after three months, you can ship the head of the flashlight to Way Too Cool at your expense, and for a fee of $18.00, WTC will replace the LED and ship the head back to you. Warranty provided directly through Way Too Cool, LLC. Not directly via Midnight Minerals.
